Wake up your brain!Breakfast means ‘break fast’ – the period of not eating when you have been asleep. If you ate at 7.30pm, went to bed at 10.30pm and got up at 7.30 the next morning, your body has ‘gone without’ food and water for 12 hours! While you were sleeping, your body has been hard at work digesting and synthesising proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Your ‘sleeping’ body has been busy and it’s not surprising that we are often tired when we wake up – even after a good eight hours sleep! Breakfast is therefore the most important meal of the day, the meal where we set ourselves up with energy, vitamins and minerals to last us through the day but all too often, it is the meal that we are most likely to skip: we’re late, we’re rushed, or we simply can’t be bothered. Breakfast is the time to give your brain some nutrients. You can improve your ability to concentrate, your memory, your co ordination and your mood at the start of the day by increasing the amount of water and fruit juices you drink. Stimulate your brain and body and get them working with a simple, nutritious and stimulating drink. Most of us only enjoy freshly squeezed juices when we are on holiday. Why not start every day as if it were a holiday and see how good you start to feel with this simple juice drink: Ingredientsfor 1 serving 2 oranges or 1 grapefruit MethodPeel your selected fruit – or wash the apples – and juice them. Pour into a glass and wake up your mind and body! Scott Humphries is the Managing Director of Core Training UK Limited and has a wealth of fitness expertise.
